When I Didn’t Feel Like Praying — But Knew I Had To

There are days when I wake up and prayer doesn’t come naturally.
Not because I doubt God, but because I’m in a war and sometimes, the first thing under attack is my desire to talk to Him.

Let’s be real: your spirit can believe, but your soul can still feel exhausted.

“The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”Matthew 26:41

And that’s when prayer becomes a choice, not a feeling.
Not a performance. Not poetry.
Just a decision to kneel before God even if my heart is trembling, or numb.

Prayer Is Where the Real War Happens

The enemy doesn’t mind when we scroll through Christian quotes.
He doesn’t panic when we talk about breakthrough.

But start praying?
Start groaning?
Start crying out in that messy, honest way that pushes through the fog?

That’s when the battle begins.
That’s when resistance hits.
Because prayer pulls heaven into the middle of our earthly situation.

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal…”2 Corinthians 10:3–4

When I didn’t feel like praying I prayed anyway.
And not because I’m some spiritual giant.
But because I’ve learned: if I stop praying, I start drifting.

There Is Power in Showing Up Broken

Some of my deepest prayers sounded nothing like worship.
They sounded like, “God… please.”
Like, “God, I’m tired.”
Like, “God, where are You?”

And I used to be ashamed of that.
Until I realized that David prayed the same way raw, desperate, sometimes loud, sometimes silent.

“I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare before Him my trouble.”Psalm 142:2
“Why, Lord, do You stand far off? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?”Psalm 10:1

This isn’t weakness. This is sonship.
This is what it means to be a child of God who doesn’t run away when it hurts but runs toward the Father, even if limping.

If You’re Feeling Spiritually Numb

I know that place.
Where your mouth says “God is good” but your heart isn’t feeling it.
Where the room feels cold. The words feel hollow. The fight feels lonely.

But listen to me: God hears you even when you don’t hear Him.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”Psalm 34:18

Don’t wait to feel holy.
Just speak. Just sit. Just whisper His name if that’s all you’ve got.

Because there’s more faith in a tired whisper than in a loud, empty shout.

You’re Not Alone — But You’ve Got to Fight

I say this with love and urgency:
Don’t let discouragement make you silent.
Don’t wait until you feel worthy to approach God.
He already made you worthy by the blood of Jesus.

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence…”Hebrews 4:16

The throne isn’t for the perfect it’s for the broken who still show up.

So let’s show up. Let’s fight the fog. Let’s open our mouths, even if what comes out is cracked and weak.

God is not impressed by performance.
He responds to surrender.

Let’s Keep Pressing In — Even Through the Silence

You don’t need to pretend. You don’t need fancy words.
You need honesty. And consistency.

“Pray without ceasing.”1 Thessalonians 5:17

That doesn’t mean shouting all day.
It means keeping your heart open.
It means returning again and again even when you’re dry, even when you’re low, even when you’re doubting.

I’m not writing this as someone who’s overcome everything.
I’m writing this as someone in the fire, choosing to pray even when it hurts, even when it’s quiet, even when nothing has changed yet.

Let’s do this together. Let’s keep showing up.
Not just for results but because He’s worthy, even in the waiting.
